NATIONAL VEHICLE THEFT INVESTIGATORS’ COURSE
Sub-program A: Reducing the Cost of Theft
Approach A3: Improving Investigative Responses and Inter-agency Co-operation.
Background
The NMVTRC's predecessor, the
National Motor Vehicle Theft Task Force, recommended that a national
vehicle theft investigation course be developed to help perpetuate
the transfer of specialised expertise and informal intelligence exchange.
Many of the state and territory police services however have now
established dedicated “centres of expertise” within
their organised crime departments to support local vehicle theft investigation.
Work Program
Investigators’ Network
The need for NMVTRC facilitated
training has been alleviated with the development of the police “centres of expertise”,
the NMVTRC’s on-going police vehicle theft investigators’ forum and the proposed Australian Crime Commission's motor vehicle theft investigators desk which will facilitate the sharing of intelligence, knowledge and expertise nationally..
