WORK IN PROGRESS

AUSTRALIA'S MOST WANTED

Sub-program B: Reducing the Volume of Theft

Approach B2: Promoting Secure Practices in the Community

Background

While the public profile of vehicle theft and security has increased over recent years, fresh and innovative methods of reporting on vehicle theft are required to keep the issue in the media and public eye.

The NMVTRC's Australia's Most Wanted campaign in 2004/05 was designed to focus community attention on the current targets of thieves and how motorists can minimise their risk of becoming a victim.

The campaign is based around media events in state and territory capitals which feature a physical display of the top volume and cost targets, an audio-visual presentation on the life-cycle of vehicle theft, and media access to victims of vehicle theft.  The events are co-hosted in each jurisdiction by the local police minister.

Work Program

Australia's Most Wanted media events were held in all state and territory capitals, except the ACT, between November 2004 and July 2005.  Click on the links below for the event press releases.
